Digital Restoration

O.S. ENGINES OS-RE-49-PI-II-GOLD Wankel

Welcome to a tour through the results of the digital restoration of the third
4.97 cc rotary piston engine in the GOLD EDITION for model aircraft based on the NSU / Wankel system.

The GRAUPNER aircraft engine is after the OS-RE-49 and OS-RE-49-PI the third and final variant of the rotary piston model engine produced in series for modelling, based on the principle developed by Dr. Felix Wankel, which corresponds to the four-stroke system. Its outstanding features are its powerful running, the almost complete absence of vibration and the effective silencing.

In autumn 2021 I had the opportunity to purchase a copy of the rare 'Gold Edition'. I could not find any differences to the standard version, so the changes can be found in the colouring and surface treatment.

Technically and in terms of performance data, the engine is identical to the OS-RE-49-PI-II. The present GOLD EDITION was also limited to the production of 100 pieces and had the Graupner order number 2717.GOLD.

The version was released in honor of the 100th birthday of O.S. ENGINES founder Shigeo Ogawa, who was born in 1917.
