Welcome to a foray into the results of the digital design of this 14.91 cc 3-disk rotary piston engine for model aircraft based on the NSU / Wankel system. A CADDICTED study.
The 3-cylinder / 3-disc version of the ROTARY 49-PI is a purely theoretical construction and was created as a pure study of how such a version could look in principle. The inspiration here was the design of the Mercedes-Benz C111 or the Mazda 3-disk racing engine 13G. All essential parts such as the rotor, carburetor, trochoid stator housing and bearings are identical to the ROTARY 49-PI version.
The basic geometry of the center plates was derived from the OS-RE-49-PI-2C version. Due to the length of the motor and the necessary (theoretical) contact pressure of the stator housing against the center plates, appropriate tie rods were installed. The rotors have a theoretical offset angle of 120° via a three-part crankshaft. In a real setup, however, this would have to be checked and, if necessary, adjusted depending on the ignition and running properties of the individual chambers.
That would certainly be an exciting project...
As with the 2C variant, there are only theoretical technical data, which are listed below. Further data can be found in the following blueprints.
